Full Moon in Taurus

by | Dec 7, 2022

On December 7, there will be a full moon in Taurus in the nakshatra of Rohini. The full moon is about endings, in which one road closes for a new path to open.  The Sun and the Moon are opposite each other, with the Moon reflecting the Sun’s light. Emotions can rise high (think of the tide being higher during full moons, and given we are 80% water, our emotions heighten).

Rohini is the Moon’s favorite, “wife”. In ancient Indian mythology, the 27 nakshatras or constellations were considered the “wives” of the Moon. The moon spent the most time with Rohini, leaving the other wives to get jealous. They complained to their father, who put a curse on the Moon. The daughters didn’t expect this curse, and begged their father to reverse the curse.

However, it was too late, and the best the father could do was adjust the phases of the Moon to where the Moon spent 2.5 days with each “wife” (which gives rise to the waxing and waning of the moon). Rohini still remains the Moon’s favorite wife, in which the Moon is the happiest. This position of the moon favors sensuality and luxury.

Taurus is the natural second sign of the zodiac and is about our sense of worth, value and security. And for most of us, this comes from how much money we have. There will be a strong focus on how we get our earnings, especially as we are in a recession. Taurus is ruled by Venus, which governs our relationships and the creative force within us. So our desire for security can impact our relationships.

Note that the Moon is conjunct a retrograde Mars, which intensifies our internal energy.  The Moon is a feminine planet filled with receptivity. Mars is a masculine planet radiating fire.  We can outwardly have an increased burst of energy to get things done, but internally can be burning up and ready to explode. So together, the Moon and Mars can escalate and fuel feelings of aggression, reactivity, and impulsiveness. This full Moon can bring out very strong, emotional feelings centered around money and relationships.

On a side note, this combination can give headaches and migraines, as the moon represents the mind and mars corresponds to anger. Migraines block our energies to love ourselves.

So hold on tight through this very charged and fiery full Moon!
