On December 3, Mercury moves into the fire sign of Sagittarius, followed by Venus in Sagittarius on December 5. They will both be in Mula nakshatra.
Mercury indicates how and why we communicate the way we do. Some of us communicate analytically, and others, intuitively. Mercury is indicative of sales, writing, siblings, our thinking process, and travels. Venus is THE planet of love and beauty, and is about the power of attraction and the creative force within us.
Both these planets will be going through what’s called “gadanta,” meaning they are crossing over from Scorpio, a water sign, to Sagittarius, a fire sign. Gadanta literally means “drowning” and planets here can make an individual feel overwhelmed, like there is an urgent need to come to some sense of closure of what they are going through. There’s a feeling that time is running out, with an intense desire to close out loose ends.
It’s not recommended to start anything new during this time, as it is more about bringing something to completion. Once the planets go through the gandanta transits and get stabilized between 2-3 degrees of Sagittarius, there will be a need to get to the bottom of whatever was trying to get resolved through the gadanta transit.
One of the most difficult nakshatras, Mula is symbolized by a bunch of roots tied together and is ruled by Noriti, the god of destruction. It is about digging deep (literally to the roots) to get to the heart of the matter. In this process, it can destroy what’s existing to get to the next phase to plant new roots to move forward.
Both Venus and Mercury in Mula love to do research and gain information for a specific reason. Remember, Sagittarius is the natural ninth house of the zodiac, and is symbolized by half man, half archer, holding a bow and an arrow, indicating a sense of purpose, aim and direction. Mercury is naturally curious to get information, so it can attain insight in Mula. And with Venus, there can be some type of upheaval in relationships once there is an impulse to dig deep into things.
Mula is ruled by Ketu, the south node of the Moon,. As Ketu is the headless part of the serpent, it is also about not having complete transparency to what’s going on. Because transiting Ketu is in Libra right now, there can be some deep rooted issues in relationships that need to be examined.
Both these planets will also be aspected by Mars and Rahu. As Rahu is all about illusion, there can be some fogginess in trying to unearth and uncover, causing an obsession with trying to get to the bottom of things. Mars will be casting its eighth aspect, which can result in a huge transformation of relationships through the process of uprooting and getting rid of what’s not working.
Both these planets will transit through Sagittarius until the end of the month. Mercury will move to Capricorn 12/28, but will begin its retrograde process the very next day, 12/29 and will move back into Sagittarius. Venus will move into Capricorn 12/29. The year wraps up with a steady progress of transits through the last couple of months uncovering and unearthing what’s not working to plant new seeds that can be harvested in the year to come.
