On January 21, we have a new Moon in Capricorn in the nakshatra of Uttarashada.
The new Moon is when the Moon and the Sun are together in the same sign, ushering in new beginnings. The new Moon is also with Pluto in the early degrees of Capricorn and with Venus, who is closing its journey in Capricorn and about to move into Aquarius with Saturn.
The new Moon is also called a dark Moon, as it reflects the light from the Sun, obscuring its fullness and only disclosing its crescent shape. We have the ability to see through the dark by our intuition, as our minds are illuminated to find their way out of stagnation. As is with any period of darkness, it is recommended to turn inward and search within yourself. A new Moon reflects a fresh start that is defined by the sign and house the Moon is in, the latter which is unique to each of us depending on our chart.
Capricorn is the natural tenth house of work, so expect changes in the workplace and your career. You may have felt stuck for a very long time and finally feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. If you are not starting something new, then there will be a shift in direction from where you felt you were standing that will give you a rebirth.
Pluto helps this shift, as it is almost conjunct (on top of) the new Moon and Sun. Pluto is at 4 degrees and the Moon and Sun are at 6 and 7 degrees, respectively. So we have a tight alliance of these three planets, creating the energy for change and transformation. This is also a time to let go of the grudges, as doing so will create new vigor to move forward.
Uttarashada is ruled by the Sun and is symbolized by the elephant tusk, which is a metaphor for removing obstacles in our path. If you think of elephant tusks, they are large and pointy, so the process of elimination can be invasive and piercing. With any trials and tribulations, you will have some deep epiphanies on how you would like to proceed forward and once problems are removed, you will emerge victorious. Uttarashada in Capricorn uses perseverance to plough through hard work. The Sun symbolizes leaders and authority so Uttarashada relates to searching for power and dominance.
This new Moon can symbolize a new beginning in personal power and resilience, helping you move past whatever stood in your way. This journey is by no means easy and may have felt like it took forever to get to this place, but now that it’s here, make the most of it to shine forward.
