Venus Moves to Virgo

by | Sep 24, 2022

Venus moves to Virgo, where it will stay until October 18th.   It will be conjunct the Sun and a powerful Mercury retrograde in the nakshatra (star) of Uttara Phalguni.  What does this mean? Please note I am referring to the sidereal Vedic (Indian)  Astrology and not sun sign Tropical Astrology!

💕What is Venus?  Venus is THE planet of love and beauty, and is about the power of attraction and the creative force within us. It is about the luxuries and comforts of life, and is the indicator of the wife in a man’s chart and of relationships in both men and women.  Venus rules the natural 2nd and 7th (partnerships, relationships) houses.

What is Virgo ? This is a mutable earth sign, meaning there’s a desire for a practical approach to change and adaptability. Virgo is concerned with precision and perfection.   Virgo is the natural 6th house of the zodiac, indicative of service, healing, diet, nutrition. It’s also the house of open enemies (enemies we know about) and litigation, where we fight our battles.

What is Uttara Phalguni ? This is the nakshatra (star) of working hard, having a realistic and practical application to life. It is symbolized by a bed or the back legs of a cot that indicates rest and relaxation, in which after one returns to work. It is about self -reliance, independence, service and helping others, as it is the star of compassion and friendship.

Putting this together….you may or may not know this, but Venus in Virgo is actually in its sign of debilitation. Why? Because Venus is the planet of love and wants to keep you happy in love. The highest love is spiritual love, where one is free to love with no boundaries and is detached  from materialism. That’s why Venus is exalted in Pisces, the natural 12th house of moksha (liberation). So in Virgo, the natural 6th house, Venus is the female warrior, fighting and building relationships through practicality, diplomacy and by setting boundaries.

So what helps this debilitated Venus? A few things. First, it’s directly aspected by Jupiter in Pisces, it’s sign of exaltation (good thing!). Second, it is conjunct the Sun and  a super powerful, exalted Mercury(doubly good!) that will cancel out Venus’ debiiltation once it goes direct.  In Vedic Astrology, when a debilitated and exalted planet are together, the exalted planet cancels out the debilitated planet. Think of it like being lifted up by your best friend when you’re down and depressed.

All in all, use this period to fight what’s worth fighting for,  exercise deliberation and caution around communication to make logical and practical choices
